Amman, August 21 (Petra) - Hotel occupancy rates across the Kingdom this weekend ranged between 6-66%, as Amman achieved the highest rate of 66%, then came the Dead Sea at 39%, and Petra at 6%.
In remarks to "Petra," vice president and spokesperson for the Jordan Hotel Association (JHA), Hussein Hilalat, current data shows that tourist activity in the Dead Sea area is "active," compared to previous weeks.
Hilalat added that this growth is primarily due to the end of the summer vacation for school students and the improvement in weather conditions, which contributed to increasing demand this week.
Hilalat added: "Available data indicates a decline in occupancy rates in the capital, Amman, compared to previous weeks, following conclusion of the concert season, due to the approaching end of the summer vacation, and return of expatriates to their home countries."
Meanwhile, he noted the ancient city of Petra is "still witnessing a noticeable decline" in hotel occupancy rates during this period due to weak tourist activity and absence of foreign visitors, both Americans and Europeans.
Hilalat indicated that occupancy rates in 5-star hotels reached 74% in Amman, while stood at 51% in the Dead Sea, and 12% in Petra, respectively.
As for 4-star hotels, occupancy rates reached 66% in Amman, 27% in the Dead Sea, and 4% in Petra, while 3-star hotels' occupancy rates stood at 59% in Amman and 1% in Petra.
