South Korea Extends Detention of Former First Lady
(MENAFN) Authorities in South Korea have prolonged the custody of former First Lady Kim Keon Hee for an additional ten days, extending her detention through the end of August.
This update was provided by prosecutors on Wednesday.
The team working under special counsel Min Joong-ki revealed that the court has authorized the extension of Kim’s custody until August 31, as reported by a news agency.
Kim was taken into custody last week, with her original period of detention scheduled to conclude on Thursday.
According to South Korean legislation, prosecutors are obligated to formally charge the suspect within the period of the extended detention, as no additional extensions are legally permissible.
Kim is expected to appear once again for interrogation on Thursday, marking the third session conducted by the special counsel's office.
She is under investigation for several allegations, which include "election meddling", "bribery", and "abusing her power" during President Yoon’s administration.
