Jordan, Syria, US, discuss situation in Syria
(MENAFN) Jordan has brought together officials from Syria and the United States for a trilateral discussion focused on the ongoing situation in Sweida, according to statements from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.
The talks, held Tuesday in Amman, included Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Syria’s foreign affairs chief Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, U.S. Special Envoy for Syria and Ambassador to Türkiye Thomas Barrack, along with representatives from key institutions of the three nations.
During the meeting, participants emphasized that Sweida is an inseparable part of Syria and highlighted the importance of protecting the rights of its population while working toward rebuilding a unified state with inclusive citizen involvement.
They agreed to reconvene in the coming weeks to carry on the discussions and act on Syria’s request to set up a trilateral working group. This group would focus on maintaining the Sweida ceasefire and advancing efforts toward resolving the broader crisis.
Jordan and the U.S. expressed support for recent measures by Syrian authorities, which include probing recent violations in Sweida, working with UN organizations, expanding humanitarian relief, repairing damaged infrastructure, facilitating the return of displaced people, and fostering civil harmony.
