Julianne Megaw
I am a Lecturer in Microbiology at Queen's University Belfast, specialising in environmental microbiology. My research investigates the interactions between microorganisms and their environment, with a particular focus on microbial responses to pollutants and their potential for biodegradation.
A central theme of my current work is exploring how microorganisms can contribute to environmental sustainability through the breakdown and transformation of persistent pollutants, including plastics. This research underpins the development of biotechnological strategies for mitigating plastic pollution and promoting sustainable waste management practices.
