'Please, Chatgpt': Over Half Of UAE Residents Are Polite Towards AI
More than half of UAE residents - 55.5 per cent - regularly say“please” or“thank you” when interacting with artificial intelligence (AI) according to a survey released by YouGov, offering insights into the etiquette of human-AI interactions.
This is the highest percentage among the 17 countries surveyed, which included over 12,000 AI users.

In the UAE, women - at 58.9 per cent are more polite than men - at 54.1 per cent - when engaging with this rapidly advancing technology, which is expanding across both developed and developing nations.
Interestingly, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman remarked in April 2025 that he wonders how much money OpenAI has lost in electricity costs due to people saying“please” and“thank you” to its models.
AI usage in the UAE and other developed nations is nearly 100 per cent, said Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications in the UAE Government.
“I heard that only 33 per cent of people use AI daily. I found that quite amusing, because I believe AI usage is closer to 100 per cent in the UAE or some advanced countries. Today, what answers your questions is mostly Google; this is an AI-powered search engine. We consume content on platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and others. So, AI is embedded in everything we do,” Al Olama said during a fireside chat on the second day of the Capital Market Summit in Dubai in May 2025.
The minister highlighted that the country's achievements in technological advancement and AI adoption are the result of 25 years of transformation led by the UAE government.
He encouraged everyone to start using AI tools to improve themselves, warning:“Those who are left behind are going to be at a loss, rather than those who adopt it.”
In the survey of 17 countries, Denmark (31.1 per cent), the US (32.3 per cent), and Sweden (33.2 per cent) recorded the lowest levels of politeness when interacting with AI.
