Bosnia Ousts Dodik After Court Confirms Prison Sentence

(MENAFN) The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH) voted unanimously on Wednesday to strip Milorad Dodik of his position as President of Republika Srpska.

The ruling came after the Appeals Panel of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Court confirmed Dodik’s one-year prison sentence and a six-year prohibition from holding public office. The panel upheld a previous judgment from February, which found Dodik guilty of disregarding decisions issued by the Office of the High Representative.

According to Dodik’s legal team, the commission’s decision is subject to appeal, and they intend to escalate the matter to the Constitutional Court.

In the meantime, Republika Srpska is required to hold an early election within 90 days, following the expiration of the appeal period.

Reacting on X, Dodik dismissed the ruling, declaring it will be the "last thing" Sarajevo does to him.
