Japan Witnesses All-Time High Temperature

(MENAFN) Japan on Tuesday experienced its highest temperature ever recorded, with the mercury soaring to 41.8°C (107.2°F) in the Gunma region.

This mountainous, inland prefecture located on Japan's main island, Honshu, surpassed the previous national record of 41.2°C (106.1°F), according to data provided by the nation's Meteorological Agency.

“Authorities are urging people to take steps to prevent heat-related illnesses, such as making appropriate use of air conditioning and staying hydrated,” as reported by a news agency.

The Meteorological Agency noted that a persistent high-pressure system is expected to remain over the central part of Honshu, maintaining clear skies and scorching temperatures throughout the area.

Just a day earlier, Komatsu, situated in Ishikawa Prefecture, registered a blistering 40.3°C (104.5°F)—one of the most intense heat days so far this summer.

Forecasts indicate that central Tokyo, along with the urban centers of Otsu, Takamatsu, Okayama, and Oita, are also bracing for high temperatures around 37°C (98.6°F).

Amid this severe heat wave, heatstroke advisories have been released across 44 out of Japan's 47 prefectures.

Authorities are strongly advising residents to remain indoors, utilize cooling systems, drink sufficient fluids, and refrain from engaging in outdoor tasks during the hottest parts of the day.
