Armed Drone Crashes In Erbil As Oil Infrastructure Attacks Escalate

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ERBIL, July 30 (KUNA) -- An armed drone crashed Wednesday in Dokrdkan village, west of Erbil, without causing casualties or damage, according to Kurdistan Region's Counter-Terrorism Directorate, which confirmed the drone did not explode upon impact.
This marks the second drone incident in the same area within two days, increasing concern over aerial threats targeting sensitive infrastructure in western Erbil and surrounding regions, where security conditions have recently become more volatile and unpredictable.
Starting July 14, drone attacks continued over four consecutive days, seriously disrupting production across key oil fields in the Kurdistan Region, cutting output by 140,000 to 150,000 barrels daily and severely affecting local and export operations.
The production disruption has led to estimated financial losses of roughly USD 10 million per day at current global oil prices, significantly affecting the Kurdistan Region's economy, which relies heavily on oil as its primary revenue source.
Carried out mostly by explosive-laden drones, these attacks have targeted local and international oil facilities, and their growing frequency and precision have raised serious alarms about the safety and stability of energy infrastructure in the region. (end)
