Trump Expresses Optimism Over Trade Discussions with China
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about recent trade discussions between American officials and China, indicating plans to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping later this year.
Speaking from Air Force One, Trump referenced US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s two-day negotiations in Sweden with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, describing the talks as "very good."
“They are going to brief me tomorrow. We'll either approve it or not,” Trump explained, noting that Bessent’s outlook on the talks had improved, stating he "felt very good about the meeting, better than he felt yesterday."
Trump also reiterated that Xi is eager to hold a meeting soon, confirming, “wants to meet.”
Looking ahead, Trump said, “And I look forward to the meeting too, but I would say before the end of the year,” as he returned to the US following a trip to Scotland.
