Iraqi Ambassador, Officials Explore Cultural, Tourism Cooperation In Salt

Salt, July 27 (Petra) – Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Omar Barzanji met with Chairperson of the Greater Salt Municipality Committee Ali Batayneh, Director of the Jordan Tourism Board Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat, Chairperson of the Governorate Council Committee Ziad Samardali, and Director of the Salt Reconstruction Foundation Khaldoun Khreisat to explore avenues for enhancing cultural and tourism cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Batayneh and Barzanji underscored the deep-rooted historical ties between Jordan and Iraq, which serve as a cornerstone for cooperation across multiple fields.
Barzanji emphasized the historical and cultural significance of Salt, particularly after its designation as a World Heritage Site. He highlighted the importance of boosting cultural and tourism exchange as a means of strengthening relations.
For his part, Batayneh outlined the municipality's role in promoting local development and sustaining public services, with a focus on preserving heritage tourism routes within the old city.
Khreisat delivered a comprehensive overview of Salt's historical heritage, noting the collaborative efforts between the Foundation and the municipality to safeguard the city's cultural legacy. He emphasized the preservation of traditional customs, artisanal crafts, and distinctive architectural landmarks that reflect Salt's unique identity.
The Iraqi delegation also toured Salt's heritage trails, gaining insight into the city's architectural character and historical depth.
