As the video gained millions of views on social media and shared across platforms and turned into memes, speculation swirled about the individuals involved. In response, Astronomer released a statement acknowledging an investigation and confirming the CEO's leave, without referencing the footage directly.
Soon after, the company announced Byron's resignation. Astronomer has since named co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy as interim CEO.
Reflecting on the sudden media spotlight, DeJoy admitted that the last few days brought a level of attention most startups in their niche rarely see.
"The events of the past few days have received a level of media attention that few companies - let alone startups in our small corner of the data and AI world - ever encounter," Mr DeJoy said in an update after taking the reins.
He noted the company became a "household" name almost overnight and would continue on its path forward and "commitment to building something great".
