China Confirms US Chip Sales Resumption, Urges US To Lift Restrictions
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
BEIJING, July 18 (KUNA) -- China confirmed Friday that the US had agreed to resume sales of chips produced by American company Nvidia, urging Washington to abandon its "zero-sum" mentality and continue to remove unreasonable economic and trade restrictions on China.
According to a Chinese Ministry of Commerce statement carried by the official Xinhua News Agency, this came in response to official US statements that considered the resupply of the H20 chip to China part of the trade talks between the two countries.
The statement noted that Chinese companies such as Huawei have succeeded in producing equivalent chips to the American chips, but the US does not want Beijing to use such alternatives.
The ministry indicated that the Chinese and American sides have maintained close communication since the London talks and confirmed details to follow up on the implementation of their outcomes.
China approved requests for exports of controlled materials that met legal requirements, in exchange for the US removing restrictions on China that were addressed in the trade talks earlier this July.
China reiterated its categorical rejection of the restrictions imposed by the Trump administration on Huawei's Ascend chips on unjustified charges last May, describing it as political interference in fair market competition and a serious violation of the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
Meanwhile, during his meeting with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in Beijing on Thursday, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao affirmed that China's policy of attracting foreign investment will remain unchanged, hoping that multinational companies like Nvidia will provide Chinese customers with high-quality and reliable products and services.
