Chopper Crash in Russia Claims Five Lives

(MENAFN) All five individuals aboard a Mi-8 helicopter that vanished over Russia’s Khabarovsk Territory have been confirmed dead, authorities announced Wednesday.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, "Rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, together with investigators, will examine the crash site, the helicopter wreckage, and search for the flight recorders to determine the cause of the accident."

Among the victims were three crew members and two technical experts.

The helicopter wreckage was found in a remote, rugged forested area on a rocky slope near Cape Gadikan, roughly 130 kilometers from the settlement of Okhotsk, making rescue and recovery operations extremely challenging, reported media.

The Mi-8, operated by private aviation firm APK Vzlet LLC, had departed from Okhotsk en route to Magadan on Monday. According to the report, the crew failed to check in as scheduled, and the onboard emergency locator beacon never activated.
