Boat Overturns Off East Java Coast, Leaving Two Dead

(MENAFN) At least two individuals lost their lives and three remain unaccounted for after a fishing boat carrying 20 people capsized near Pasir Panjang in Pasuruan, East Java, on Sunday afternoon, local media reported Monday.

Initial reports indicate the vessel was manned by a captain and one crew member, while the remaining 18 passengers were headed to sea for recreational fishing. The incident occurred when the boat was struck by large waves as it was returning to shore.

Nearby fishermen quickly responded, transferring several survivors onto their own boats in an effort to assist.

By Monday morning, authorities confirmed that two bodies had been recovered, while three people were still missing.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency teams, police forces, and military units working in coordination to locate the missing individuals.
