Tribal Jirga In Upper South Waziristan Calls For Unity And Lasting Peace


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) A major peace jirga was held in the Makeen area of Upper South Waziristan, bringing together a large number of tribal elders from the Mehsud, Utmanzai Wazir, Ahmadzai Wazir, and Bettani tribes, along with political and social activists. The gathering aimed to promote lasting peace, mutual unity, and respect for tribal traditions in the region.

During the jirga, participants emphasized the need for strengthening law and order, fostering harmony among tribes, and preserving the cultural values of the area.

Malik Atta Muhammad, while sharing the outcomes of the jirga, announced the formation of a 45-member committee. This committee will participate in upcoming peace jirgas in Lower South Waziristan and Asadkhel, North Waziristan. The goal is to eventually form a joint peace jirga where the Mehsud and Wazir tribes will collaborate to develop a unified strategy for peace.

Speakers at the event highlighted the urgency of restoring order in the region.“We cannot afford further instability-our people already suffer from poverty and underdevelopment. We hope the government will take our peace efforts seriously and address our legitimate demands,” they said.

Prominent attendees included National Assembly member Zubair Wazir, provincial assembly members Asif Khan Mehsud and Ajab Gul Wazir, former MNAs Maulana Jamaluddin and Saifur Rehman Mehsud, former Senator Saleh Shah, Chairman Ladha Taj Malook, and Chairman Sarwakai Subdivision Shah Faisal Ghazi.
