Arab-Brazilian Chamber Joins Innovation Event
Held in Teresina, Neon is in its third edition-the first two took place in São Luís, Maranhão state, and João Pessoa, Paraíba state-with a schedule full of activities to train and promote northeastern startups. Neon began on Thursday (3) and ends on Friday (4) with lectures, mentoring sessions, business and investment rounds, startup exhibitions, and cultural presentations, featuring experts and participation from big tech companies.
Karen Mizuta was invited by Sebrae, which promotes the competitiveness of small businesses, to serve as a judge for startup pitches in the Arena Web Summit program. After this presentation stage, 38 companies will be selected to participate in an internationalization mission to the Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal, in November.
During the panel discussion“Selling to Asia: Legal Framework, Sales Culture, and Decision Triggers,” held on Thursday (3), Mizuta presented the business potential for startups in Arab countries, some of which are undergoing economic diversification processes.
“What I highlighted was the issue of opportunities in the Arab market,” said Mizuta.“The economic diversification they are undergoing, with the strategic visions for 2030 and 2050 of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries focusing on innovation, attracting skilled people, investments, and building a framework for sustainability,” she said.
At the event, she added that companies need to understand and adapt to the culture of Arab countries to operate there, adjusting to the dynamics of those economies, local preferences, and regulatory requirements.“Moreover, [it is necessary] to know how to negotiate with the local culture, which is not so pragmatic,” she said.
In her participation at Neon, Mizuta also presents the CCAB Lab, the ABCC's innovation hub, which aims to connect the innovation ecosystems of Brazil and Arab countries.
“I spoke about how the ABCC can help through its CCAB Lab. It's an innovation hub designed for this purpose, acting as a support arm for connections with the Arab world by bringing information and opportunities,” she said. On Friday (4), she will take part in the panel“Who pays the bill? Programs and networks that support your global entry.” More information about Neon is available here .
