Ummah Forum Focuses On Reviving Concept Of Collective Religious Duties

Doha, Qatar: The Department of Research and Islamic Studies at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has concluded the third cultural season of the Ummah Forum with a final seminar titled“Collective Duties: The Path to Reforming Islamic Discourse”.

The event was held at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdulwahhab Mosque and attended by Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanim, alongside a distinguished group of scholars, preachers, and academic experts specialising in Islamic preaching and intellectual affairs.

Throughout the season, held under the theme“Collective Duties... A Path to Reform,” the forum focused on reviving and activating the concept of Fard Kifayah (collective religious duties) as a foundational approach to reforming Islamic discourse and reviving its role in societal development.

In his opening remarks, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, Director of the Department of Research and Islamic Studies, emphasised that preaching (da'wah) is among the highest forms of worship and a legacy of the prophets. He stated that the forum aimed to reinvigorate the concept of collective duties within religious discourse to address existing shortcomings in the field, especially in light of rapidly evolving intellectual and cultural landscapes.

Dr. Adel Amin Al-Harazi, Professor of Hadith Studies at Qatar University, spoke on“Prospects for Reforming Religious Discourse and Spreading the Culture of Collective Duties.” He highlighted the central importance of da'wah as a collective religious obligation and called for reviving it in the contemporary Islamic context.
