India, Pakistan Swap Prisoner Lists in Diplomatic Gesture
(MENAFN) India and Pakistan engaged in a routine exchange of prisoner lists on Tuesday, according to a statement from Islamabad's Foreign Ministry. This exchange, which happens twice a year, adheres to the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access, which mandates both nations to share lists of detainees held in each other’s custody every January and July.
As part of the exchange, Pakistan delivered a list of 246 prisoners to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, consisting of 53 civilian detainees and 193 fishermen, many of whom are believed to be Indian nationals.
In return, India provided a list of 463 prisoners to Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi. The list includes 382 civilian detainees and 81 fishermen, presumed to be Pakistani.
