A blast and smoke rising at Iran's Tabriz refinery were caused by the explosion of a nitrogen tank, Iranian state media said on Sunday.

There were no casualties in the incident and the refinery continues to operate normally, the report added.

Located in northwestern Iran, the Tabriz refinery is one of the country's major oil processing plants, with a capacity of around 110,000 barrels per day, supplying fuel and petrochemical feedstock to several provinces.

Iran has been involved in a 12-day conflict with Israel earlier this month after the latter launched attacks on the Islamic Republic with the aim of destroying its nuclear programme, which Tehran says is purely peaceful.
