Japan Executes “Twitter Killer” for Nine Murders

(MENAFN) Japanese authorities on Friday carried out the execution of Takahiro Shiraishi, infamously known as Japan's "Twitter killer," who had been convicted of the 2017 murders of nine individuals.

Shiraishi's death sentence became final in 2021 after he retracted an appeal initially lodged by his legal team, according to local media reports. He exploited Twitter to identify and ensnare his victims, many of whom had publicly shared suicidal ideations. He lured them under the guise of offering assistance in their deaths or by proposing to witness their suicides.

Shiraishi was found guilty of murdering, dismembering, and concealing the bodies within his apartment, situated near Tokyo. Court proceedings revealed that Shiraishi brought eight women and one man, ranging in age from 15 to 26, to his residence between late August and late October 2017. He then proceeded to strangle and dismember them. Investigations further confirmed that he sexually assaulted all female victims and stole money from them.
