Canada Would Like Ukraine To Fully Participate In NATO Summit - Carney

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated this during a press conference after the NATO summit in The Hague.

“Would Canada have preferred a special session with NATO, with Ukraine? Absolutely! That's why we invited president Zelenskyy to the G7, I had sat for a dinner with President Zelensky last night, I had a separate series of conversations with him,” Carney said.

According to the prime minister, he raised the topic of Ukraine several times during today's meeting of NATO member states' leaders.“I took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of comprehensive - by which I mean all NATO members - financial sanctions against Russia,” the Prime Minister noted.

He believes that a coordinated increase in pressure on Russia by Canada, the United States and the European Union“will help tip, certainly, the economic balance.”

At the same time, Carney stressed that most of the discussions during the summit concerned the increase in defense spending by the member states themselves.“So, yes, it would have been better to have a session, we didn't have it, but in the actual session, myself, several others made points, but the bulk of the discussion was about the core decision,” the head of the Canadian government noted.

As Ukrinform reported, the NATO summit was held in The Hague on June 24-25, on the sidelines of which President Volodymyr Zelensky also held bilateral and multilateral meetings.
