Kremlin Describes Armenian Coup as Internal Issue

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Russia categorized Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s declaration regarding a disrupted coup attempt as a strictly “internal matter.”

“This is, of course, an internal matter for Armenia,” stated Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov during a media briefing.

Peskov also emphasized Moscow’s concern for maintaining stability and public order in Armenia. “We are, of course, interested in the preservation of law and order in Armenia, so that Armenia is a prosperous, stable country, friendly to Russia,” he added.

Earlier the same day, Prime Minister Pashinyan revealed that a conspiracy to overthrow the government—allegedly orchestrated by a prominent religious leader—had been intercepted by national security forces.

"Law enforcement officers prevented a large and sinister plan by the 'criminal-oligarchic clergy' to destabilize the Republic of Armenia and seize power," Pashinyan stated on Facebook.

He referenced a declaration from Armenia's Investigative Committee, which affirmed that the National Security Service had halted the scheme during its "preparatory stages.”
