Trump gets nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for Iran-Israel truce
(MENAFN) President Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by a U.S. lawmaker, who credited him with helping secure a ceasefire between Iran and Israel following nearly two weeks of escalating conflict.
The nomination comes shortly after Trump announced that a truce had been reached, days after the U.S. carried out a series of unprecedented airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. Trump described the impact of the operation by stating the sites were “completely and totally obliterated.” Iran, however, denied any destruction and insisted it would not abandon its civilian nuclear program.
Republican Congressman Earl “Buddy” Carter submitted the nomination in a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee. In the letter, which Trump later shared on Truth Social, Carter praised the president’s “extraordinary and historic” efforts in bringing the two sides to the negotiating table.
“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible,” the congressman wrote.
Carter further argued that Trump had taken “bold, decisive actions to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions,” and claimed that his leadership “exemplifies” the principles represented by the Nobel Peace Prize.
Trump was also put forward for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize by Pakistan last week. Officials in Islamabad cited his involvement in resolving tensions between Pakistan and India after a deadly terrorist incident in Indian-administered Kashmir in April. India, however, denied that any external mediator played a role in the de-escalation.
