UK Moves to Ban Pro-Palestinian Group

(MENAFN) The British government plans to request that legislators classify a pro-Palestinian activist group as a terrorist organization.

This decision follows an incident where members of the group infiltrated a military air base and sprayed paint into the engine of a warplane.

On Monday, UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper confirmed this intention, stating in a letter to Parliament that she will formally present the proposal next week.

She condemned the “disgraceful attack” at the Brize Norton base, calling it “the latest in a long history of unacceptable criminal damage” committed by the group.

Should the proposal be approved, it would become unlawful to belong to or publicly support Palestine Action.

Established in 2020, Palestine Action has aimed to obstruct British military assistance to Israel.

The group has focused on local weapons factories linked to Israeli arms producer Elbit Systems. Its direct-action methods have attracted backing amid Israel’s continuing military operations in Gaza.

Cooper accused Palestine Action of endangering national security by interrupting the supply of arms to Ukraine, NATO members, and other allies.

She further claimed that the group’s activities affect “innocent members of the public fleeing for safety and subjected to violence.”
