Amman, June 22 (Petra) Jordan is being recognized by political analysts and officials as a key voice of moderation and rationality in the Middle East, advocating for diplomacy and dialogue as the only viable means to resolve conflicts, in accordance with international law and legitimacy, while rejecting military solutions due to their often irreversible consequences.
Senator Omar Ayasra emphasized that Jordan's stance is firm and clear: the kingdom calls for maintaining regional stability and resolving conflicts through peaceful and diplomatic means rather than warfare. He warned that the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel carries potentially catastrophic consequences for the region, including destabilized security dynamics and a potential imbalance of power.
He stressed the importance of halting the fighting and returning to diplomatic channels to preserve regional peace and prevent dominance by one side. Ayasra explained that the path to peace is influenced by the balance of power between adversaries when one side gains the upper hand, it may attempt to impose peace through force, resorting to what he termed "cloak-and-dagger" tactics.
Recalling historical context, Ayasra noted that prior to October 7, Israel and Iran were relatively balanced in terms of deterrence, which favored a no-war posture. This parity allowed the U.S. to engage diplomatically with Iran, leading to the 2015 nuclear agreement under President Barack Obama. However, he argued that shifts in power dynamics disrupt these formulas, with post-World War II diplomacy having succeeded only when backed by a balance of power.
Senator Hayya Qarraleh echoed Ayasra's sentiments, stating that Jordan has always advocated peace and regional and global stability and refrained from exporting extremism or interfering in other nations' affairs. He emphasized that the Kingdom upholds respect for sovereignty and international norms.
Qarraleh added that Jordan consistently supports the Palestinian cause, advocating for a peaceful, negotiated resolution that satisfies all parties. Amid the current Iran-Israel crisis, he noted, Jordan was among the first to call for de-escalation and a return to dialogue. He described the kingdom as a symbol of tolerance and moderation.
Highlighting Jordan's international advocacy, Qarraleh referenced King Abdullah II's recent speech at the European Parliament, which he called unprecedented in its clarity. In it, His Majesty held the international community accountable for the devastation in Gaza and reaffirmed that the two-state solution remains the only viable path to resolving the region's central conflict.
For his part, political science professor Mohammad Qatatsheh of the University of Jordan noted that Jordan's foreign policy is rooted in non-interference, a principle consistently reinforced by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
He stressed that Jordan is recognized globally for its moderate diplomacy, always seeking legal and political pathways to resolve crises. His Majesty's engagement with world leaders reflects a candid warning that the region's escalating crises demand urgent resolution. Qatatsheh reiterated that the two-state solution is the only sustainable route to de-escalation and peace.
He concluded that Jordan has been a staunch advocate for diplomatic solutions and one of the first countries to condemn the Israeli attack on Iran, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to sovereignty, dialogue, and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
