South African Court Reviews Luthuli Death Case

(MENAFN) The South African National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) lawyers have been granted a period of four months to present Judge Nompumelelo Radebe with a persuasive case that Inkosi Albert Luthuli was assassinated by apartheid agents, contradicting the official account that he died after being hit by a goods train in 1967.

Legal representatives Ncedile Dunywa, Annah Chuene, Siyabonga Ngcobo, and Xolani Msimango wrapped up their leadership of multiple individuals providing testimony on June 11.

Since the inquest began on April 14 at the Pietermaritzburg High Court, the NPA advocates have directed a wide range of witnesses to offer evidence.

Those giving statements included members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), officials from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), specialists in scene recreation and simulation, forensic experts, medical professionals, as well as relatives of Chief Luthuli, anti-apartheid campaigners, and personal acquaintances of Luthuli.

Jeff Radebe, the former Minister of Justice, was also among those who appeared in court.

The proceedings were adjourned on June 11 and are set to resume on October 13, by which time the advocates must deliver their final arguments by October 16.
