Turkey increases security along its boarders due Iran-Israel conflict
(MENAFN) Türkiye has stepped up security measures along its borders in response to escalating regional tensions following recent clashes between Iran and Israel, Defense Minister Yasar Guler announced on Wednesday.
During a visit to the eastern province of Van, Guler stated, "Security measures at our borders have been increased due to recent incidents in neighboring Iran."
In a video conference with commanders from the Third Army Command, he emphasized that Türkiye would continue to maintain heightened border security amid ongoing developments.
Guler also condemned Israel’s recent military strikes against Iran, saying, "We condemn the attacks Israel launched against our neighbor Iran last Friday." He highlighted that previous Israeli operations in Gaza and Lebanon suggested the potential for broader regional escalation.
He called on the international community to respond to what he described as Israel’s disregard for international and domestic criticism.
The current hostilities began with Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets on June 13. Official reports indicate that the conflict has so far resulted in nearly 600 deaths in Iran and 24 in Israel.
