India Plans Evacuation for Students in Iran

(MENAFN) The Indian government is arranging to shift some of its nationals studying in Iran to “safer places” within the country, while also examining “other feasible options” to guarantee their protection, the foreign affairs ministry stated on Monday.

According to a report by a news agency, over 1,500 Indian students—mostly from the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir—remain stuck in Iran.

Relatives of the affected Indian students have called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, urging them to take immediate action to facilitate the secure return of their children, according to domestic media sources.

This comes after Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion” on Friday targeting Iran, which answered with missile strikes aimed at the Jewish nation.

Since then, both sides have exchanged additional missile attacks.

Most of the Indian nationals in Iran are enrolled in medical programs in cities like Tehran, Shiraz, and Qom, and are now anxiously waiting for arrangements to help them return to India, the news agency stated.

On Monday, the Indian Embassy in Tehran announced it is actively observing the evolving security circumstances and remains in regular communication with the students.
