Former Israeli Prime Minister: Preventing Iran's Nuclearization Will Be Extremely Challenging

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak stated that preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power would be incredibly difficult.
Ehud Barak, the former Prime Minister of Israel, stated on Monday that the achievements of Israel's four-day attacks on Iran were“remarkably impressive.” However, he added that, contrary to Israel's expectations, halting Iran's nuclear threat would be extremely difficult since Iran is on the verge of becoming a nuclear state.

Barak emphasized that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear capabilities would be impossible without the overthrow of the Islamic Republic. He explained in an interview with BBC News that Israel cannot delay Iran's nuclear capabilities for more than two or three weeks, and even the United States cannot postpone it for more than a few months.

According to Barak, if the goal is to seriously prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power, the only way to achieve this would be by declaring full-scale war on the regime and toppling it. He clarified that Israel cannot accomplish this alone and would require close coordination and full, active support from the United States.

Despite his strong stance, Barak pointed out that the U.S. is currently reluctant to enter another large-scale war. He suggested that the best scenario would be for the regime to collapse on its own, followed by Iran showing greater flexibility in negotiations. He expressed hope for such a turn of events.

Barak also warned the Netanyahu government about the possibility of a prolonged, protracted war with Iran, suggesting that Israel's Western allies may not actively participate in the conflict. He added that the worst-case scenario would be the Islamic Republic moving forward with obtaining nuclear weapons.

In conclusion, Barak's statements highlight the growing concerns over Iran's nuclear ambitions and the complex geopolitical dynamics involved. The situation continues to evolve, with various international actors weighing their options to prevent further escalation.
