Macron Blasts Iran Forced Regime Change as “Strategic Mistake”
(MENAFN) At the G7 summit in Canada on Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron issued a stern warning against attempts to forcibly alter Iran’s government, labeling such moves a “strategic mistake.” He urged an immediate halt to attacks on civilians in both Iran and Israel.
Addressing the press, Macron emphasized the futility of outside military interventions, noting they have repeatedly failed to achieve peace. “Those who believe that bombing from the outside can save a country despite itself and against itself have always been wrong,” he stated firmly.
He also denounced assaults targeting civilian populations and critical infrastructure. "It is absolutely essential that all strikes carried out on both sides, against energy, administrative, and cultural infrastructure, and especially against civilians, must stop. Nothing justifies them and they are absolutely intolerable," Macron declared.
The G7 communiqué released the same day pointed to Iran as "the main source of instability and terrorism in the region," amid rising concerns about Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
Tensions in the region have intensified since Friday, following Israeli air raids on several Iranian sites, including military and nuclear installations. Iran responded with retaliatory missile strikes.
Israeli officials reported that Iranian attacks have killed at least 24 people and injured hundreds. Meanwhile, Iran claimed that the Israeli strikes resulted in at least 224 deaths and more than 1,000 wounded.
