Investigation of damage is conducted of S-Korea KF-16 fighter
(MENAFN) A South Korean KF-16 fighter jet suffered damage during joint air exercises with the United States in Alaska, according to military sources.
The incident happened during takeoff from Eielson Air Force Base as part of the Red Flag Alaska drills, though details regarding the extent of the damage have not been disclosed.
Both pilots aboard the two-seat fighter ejected safely amid the emergency at 9:02 a.m. South Korean time (0002 GMT).
“The two pilots are safe and are being transferred to a nearby hospital,” the nation’s Air Force confirmed in an official statement.
An investigation into the exact cause of the mishap will be conducted in coordination with US authorities.
This year, South Korea deployed 11 aircraft to participate in the Red Flag Alaska exercises.
In a related incident earlier this year, a South Korean naval surveillance plane crashed domestically on May 29, resulting in the deaths of all four crew members onboard.
