Jordan Condemns Storming Of Al-Aqsa By Israeli Minister
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, June 11 (Petra) – The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs on Wednesday strongly condemned the storming of the al-Aqsa Mosque/al-Haram al-Sharif by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, under the protection of the Israeli occupation police.
The Ministry described the incident as a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, a rejected escalation, and an unacceptable provocation that Israel, as the occupying power, must immediately cease.
Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Sufian Qudah reaffirmed Jordan's absolute rejection and firm condemnation of the continued incursions by Ben-Gvir, as well as the Israeli police's facilitation of repeated violations of the sanctity of the al-Aqsa Mosque/al-Haram al-Sharif. At the same time, he noted, Israeli authorities continue to impose restrictions on the entry of worshippers to the site.
Qudah said such actions constitute a flagrant breach of the historical and legal status quo and represent an attempt to divide the site temporally and spatially, in clear desecration of its sanctity.
He emphasized that none of these practices alter the legal fact that East Jerusalem is an occupied city over which Israel has no sovereignty.
The Ministry also warned of the dangerous consequences of such provocative and illegal violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, urging Israel to immediately halt all such acts, including those by Ben-Gvir, which the Ministry said reflect the extremist policies of the Israeli government. These policies, it noted, serve to escalate tensions further across the occupied West Bank, including through raids on Palestinian cities and infringements on Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The Ministry reiterated that the entire 144-dunum area of the al-Aqsa Mosque is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Endowments and al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, under the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, is the sole legal authority responsible for administering the site and regulating access.
