PMI to Showcase Project Success Strategies at Oman Design & Build Week 2025

(MENAFN- Innovatus) Project Management Institute (PMI), the world's leading authority on project management, is participating in Oman Design & Build Week 2025, the Sultanate's largest exhibition for the building, construction, and real estate industries. The event, with 14,000 attendees and 130 exhibitors, runs from May 19-21, 2025, at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre in Muscat.
PMI's participation features key industry leaders sharing cutting-edge insights on maximizing project success in the rapidly evolving Middle Eastern construction landscape. Hanny Alshazly, Managing Director, Middle East & North Africa at PMI, will deliver a keynote address titled "Maximizing Project Success With People, Planet and Innovation".

Ben Breen, Global Director Construction and Vice President at PMI, gave a keynote presentation on "Reframing Project Success" and redefining excellence in construction project delivery on the first day of the symposium.

“Our latest Talent Gap report shows that up to 56,000 project professionals may be needed in Oman alone to address the talent gap”, said Hanny Alshazly. " Our participation at Oman Design & Build Week reflects PMI's commitment to empowering organizations to deliver greater value and equipping Omani project professionals with future-ready skills to realize Oman’s Vision 2040."

Ben Breen's presentation highlighted findings from PMI's comprehensive global research on redefiningproject success, which reveals that despite construction being the world's largest industry at 13% of global GDP, it faces critical efficiency challenges, particularly relevant to the Middle Eastern market.

"For every $1 billion spent on construction projects, $127 million is wasted through inefficient processes and poor project management. Our research specifically shows that nearly three-quarters of construction projects experience delays, 73% end up over budget, and 70% face scope creep issues," said Ben Breen.

Further PMI research has identified that implementing measurement systems is the top performance lever for project success, increasing success probability by 7.2 times compared to projects without proper measurement frameworks. Additionally, the research reveals that caring for team morale (4.2x success multiplier), ensuring adequate funding for completion (3.3x), and effective resource management (3.1x) are critical factors in determining whether construction projects deliver value worth the effort and expense.

PMI’s representation also included Rudolf Khoury, Head of Markets at PMI MENA, who moderated a panel discussion on "Advancing Project Management Excellence in Oman and Beyond" and will moderate another panel on ‘The Role of Technology in Project Management”.
And Raphael Ani, Global Business Development Lead (Construction) at PMI, moderated a panel discussion on “Building Success: Project Management Strategies in Construction” and will be moderating the discussion around “Sustainability in Construction/Sustainable Urban Development: Integrating Nature into the Built Environment”.

Visitors to PMI's booth 5120A will have the opportunity to explore the organization's Construction Professional (PMI-CP™) certification program, a specialized credential designed to address the industry's most pressing challenges. The certification equips construction professionals with essential skills in project communication, scope and change order management, interface management, and risk management. Attendees can also learn about the new Digital Construction Practitioner course developed in collaboration with Oracle, which focuses on leveraging emerging technologies in construction project management.

The event comes at a critical time for Oman's construction sector, which is experiencing significant growth as part of the country's economic diversification efforts. PMI's participation underscores its commitment to supporting the region's ambitious development goals through world-class project management expertise.
