Fatal Coal Mine Blast in Afghanistan Kills Seven

(MENAFN) A deadly explosion tore through a coal mine in Afghanistan’s northern Samangan province early Wednesday, leaving at least seven miners dead and two others wounded, according to a local police representative.

The incident occurred due to an accumulation of methane gas at a mining site located in the Dara-i-Sufi Payen district, said provincial police spokesman Hashmatullah Rahmani.

Seven miners were killed instantly, and two others sustained injuries, according to Rahmani.

Authorities, along with medical responders, retrieved the bodies from the scene and have returned them to the victims’ families.

The two injured miners were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment, Rahmani confirmed.
