US Expects Increasing Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

(MENAFN) The United States anticipates a growth in humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza “over the next few days and weeks,” according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

His statement came as Israel started permitting a limited quantity of assistance into the heavily restricted territory, following an almost three-month blockade.

Speaking during a Senate Appropriations Committee session focused on the State Department’s budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year, Rubio emphasized that Washington has been in continuous dialogue with Israeli leaders to advocate for the reinstatement of aid supplies.

“We anticipate that those flows will increase over the next few days and weeks,” Rubio stated. “It's important that that be achieved.”

His comments underscored the urgency the US places on restoring humanitarian relief to the region.

Rubio also mentioned that he recently had discussions in Rome with Cindy McCain, the executive director of the UN World Food Program.

They explored the logistics of restarting food distribution efforts should the agency resume its presence in Gaza.

“She outlined for me exactly how they would distribute food and how the program would work if it were to be restarted,” Rubio noted, detailing their conversation.

Rubio’s testimony followed a statement from the UN humanitarian affairs office, which reported that Israel had approved the passage of roughly 100 aid trucks into Gaza.

This marked a notable rise from the nine trucks cleared the previous day.

However, aid organizations and global bodies warned that the volume still falls significantly short of what is required to address the dire conditions in Gaza, where residents are enduring extreme food scarcity.
