Trump, Putin Discuss Ukraine Ceasefire
(MENAFN) United States Leader Donald Trump stated on Monday that his long-anticipated phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin “went very well,” revealing that both Moscow and Kyiv are expected to “immediately” begin peace discussions focused on a ceasefire.
Trump referred to the two-hour dialogue with Putin as “excellent,” explaining that Russia is eager to pursue “largescale” economic exchanges with the United States after the conflict concludes.
He also emphasized the vast possibilities for bilateral commerce, labeling it “unlimited,” and remarked that Ukraine “can be a great beneficiary on Trade, in the process of rebuilding its Country.”
In a message shared on social media, Trump announced, “Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War.”
He emphasized that the terms of peace would be arranged solely by the two nations, stating, “because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of.”
He also noted that “The Vatican, as represented by the Pope, has stated that it would be very interested in hosting the negotiations.”
He concluded his message with, “Let the process begin!”
Trump confirmed that after his conversation with Putin, he informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, and other European leaders about the key points of the call.
Meanwhile, in a press conference in Sochi, Russian President Putin described the exchange with Trump as “frank and substantive.”
He indicated that Trump recognized Russia’s declared intention to resolve the Ukraine crisis through peaceful means.
