(MENAFN) A devastating road accident in the Orai area of Uttar Pradesh, a northern state in India, has resulted in the deaths of six members of the same family, according to local police reports on Thursday. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, also left two other individuals with serious injuries.

The family was reportedly traveling in a small sport utility vehicle on the way to Bengaluru, the capital of the southern state of Karnataka.

Based on the account of one of the survivors, the tragic event unfolded when the driver of the SUV reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. The two individuals who sustained injuries have been admitted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
