Nintendo Delays Pre-Orders for Switch 2 Console in US
(MENAFN) Nintendo, the Japanese video game firm, has decided to postpone pre-orders for its highly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 console in the United States, raising concerns over the impact of freshly imposed tariffs by the Donald Trump government.
This decision was announced on Friday and reflects the company's uncertainty regarding the new trade conditions.
The company explained in an official statement, "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions."
Despite the delay in pre-orders, Nintendo assured that the release date of June 5, 2025, for the console would remain as originally planned.
The postponement followed the announcement by Trump on Wednesday that new tariffs of 49 percent and 46 percent would be applied to imports from Cambodia and Vietnam, individually, amid his reciprocal tariffs legislation.
A report from a newspaper the previous month, citing analysts, indicated that a significant portion of Nintendo’s hardware imports into the U.S. comes from these two countries.
Trump also mentioned progress in diplomatic discussions with Vietnam regarding trade matters. On Friday, he shared on Truth Social, "Just had a very productive call with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who told me that Vietnam wants to cut their Tariffs down to ZERO if they are able to make an agreement with the U.S."
