OpenAI's ChatGPT tops AI tool rankings in January
(MENAFN) OpenAI's ChatGPT remained the most popular artificial intelligence tool in January, garnering 4.7 billion monthly visits, according to data from AITools. However, the US-based chatbot experienced a decline in user traffic following the launch of China's DeepSeek.
Canva, an online graphic design application, secured the second spot with 887 million monthly visits, while Google Translate followed closely with 595 million.
The release of DeepSeek, a Chinese AI chatbot with an open-source reasoning model comparable to ChatGPT's premium offering, caused a significant impact on the US AI market and stock prices. DeepSeek's monthly user base surged by over 2,000% to 268 million in January, exhibiting the fastest growth among AI tools. Conversely, ChatGPT's user count dropped by 2%.
CharacterAI ranked fifth with 226 million monthly users, followed by JanitorAI (200 million), Perplexity (133 million), and Google's Gemini (118 million). Gemini's visitor numbers declined by over 9% in January, likely due to DeepSeek's prominence.
Remove.bg and Claude rounded out the top 10 with 112 million and 105 million monthly users, respectively.
The data underscores the intensifying AI competition, with the top 10 list predominantly featuring US-based tools, with DeepSeek standing as the sole Chinese representative.
