China promises to fight for World Cup spot against Australia
(MENAFN) On Monday, China’s head coach Branko Ivankovic emphasized his team’s commitment to giving their best performance for their home fans in the approaching 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifier against Australia. The match is set to be played in front of a record-breaking crowd of 70,000 supporters.
Ivankovic expressed his hopes for a thrilling game, urging his players to fight until the final whistle. "Tomorrow will be a grand match for both teams. I hope my players could play their best football and fight until the end in front of all our supporters," he stated during the pre-match news meeting.
China sits at the bottom of Group C with six points after a narrow 1-0 loss to Saudi Arabia last Thursday, while Australia is in second place with 10 points following a dominant 5-1 victory over Indonesia. Only three games remain in the qualifiers.
In the tightly contested Group C, the top two teams will automatically qualify for the World Cup finals, while the bottom two face elimination. The third and fourth-place teams will move on to the next qualification phase. To keep their World Cup dreams alive, China must secure points against the Socceroos.
