Nearly 16,000 Posts Vacant In J&K's Health Department: Itoo


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Nearly 16,000 positions remain unfilled across Jammu and Kashmir's Health Department, Health Minister Sakina Itoo informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday. The shortage spans multiple categories, including doctors, paramedics, and non-gazetted staff, impacting healthcare services across the Union Territory.

Responding to MLA Sham Lal Sharma's inquiry, the Minister disclosed that the Directorate of Health Services in Jammu has 980 vacant gazetted posts and 2,937 non-gazetted vacancies. In Kashmir, the Directorate of Health Services has 420 unfilled gazetted positions alongside 1,574 non-gazetted vacancies. Additionally, the Ayush department has 45 vacant gazetted posts and 190 non-gazetted positions, while the National Health Mission is operating with 305 gazetted and 1,422 non-gazetted posts unfilled. Combined, the vacancies in these departments amount to 7,873.

Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across Jammu and Kashmir also face acute staff shortages. GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals have 347 vacant gazetted posts and 1,984 non-gazetted vacancies. GMC Jammu follows closely with 362 gazetted and 1,392 non-gazetted positions unfilled. Other medical colleges facing shortages include GMC Anantnag (91 gazetted, 283 non-gazetted), GMC Baramulla (232 gazetted, 357 non-gazetted), GMC Doda (154 gazetted, 225 non-gazetted), GMC Kathua (121 gazetted, 188 non-gazetted), GMC Rajouri (173 gazetted, 232 non-gazetted.
