Colombian army kills 4 ELN Guerrillas during military operation
(MENAFN) The Colombian National Army reported on Sunday that four members of the National Liberation Army (ELN), a guerrilla group, were killed during a military operation in the northern department of Norte de Santander.
During the raid, the army took hold of four rifles, a firearm, explosives, supplies, as well as communications equipment.
This operation is part of a wider initiative to regain control in the region, where the ELN has escalated attacks on civilians starting from January.
These attacks have resulted in more than 80 deaths and displaced at least 40,000 individuals.
In a bid to address the situation, Colombian President Gustavo Petro declared a "state of internal unrest" in the region to combat the worsening security threats.
