Sudanese Army Claims Military Advancements Among Current Fight with RSF
(MENAFN) On Sunday, the Sudanese army reported new military advancements in central Khartoum as it continues to clash with the paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
A statement from the military indicated that army forces are actively working to clear neighborhoods in central Khartoum of RSF militants.
The army released a video showing its forces taking control of the Al-Waha Mall in the city's commercial district. Additional footage highlighted army units deployed at key locations such as Al Baraka Tower, Khartoum Grand Mosque, and Araak Hotel within the area.
There was no immediate response from the RSF regarding the army's claims.
Earlier, on Friday, the Sudanese army reclaimed the presidential palace in Khartoum for the first time since the war erupted nearly two years ago with the RSF.
In recent weeks, the RSF’s territorial control has significantly dwindled, with the Sudanese army gaining ground in several states, including Khartoum, Al-Jazira, White Nile, North Kordofan, Sennar, and Blue Nile.
The ongoing conflict, which began in mid-April 2023, has led to more than 20,000 fatalities and displaced around 14 million people, based on the UN and local authorities. However, research conducted by US universities places the total deaths at an estimated 130,000.
