Sudanese army claims key area control in Khartoum
(MENAFN) The Sudanese army announced on Sunday that its forces have achieved substantial military gains within central Khartoum, amidst ongoing and fierce confrontations with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Military officials released statements detailing operations aimed at systematically clearing RSF militants from key neighborhoods within the capital.
Video footage disseminated by the army showcased their forces establishing control over strategic locations. These locations include the Al-Waha Mall, a significant commercial hub, as well as the Al Baraka Tower, the Khartoum Grand Mosque, and the Araak Hotel. These locations are located within the central commercial district of Khartoum. The securing of these locations signifies a strategic push by the Sudanese army.
As of the time of this reporting, the RSF has not issued any immediate response or comment regarding the army's claims of territorial gains.
This reported progress follows the Sudanese army's recapture of the presidential palace in Khartoum on Friday. This was a very significant event, marking the first time the army has reclaimed control of the palace since the conflict with the RSF erupted almost two years ago.
Military sources indicate that the RSF's territorial control has been demonstrably shrinking in recent weeks. The Sudanese army has reported gains across multiple states, including Khartoum, Al-Jazira, White Nile, North Kordofan, Sennar, and Blue Nile.
