Turkish Foreign Minister Calls for Action Regarding Egypt’s Plan for Gaza
(MENAFN) On Sunday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called for efforts to address the Gaza situation based on Egypt’s proposed plan, according to diplomatic sources. Fidan highlighted that Egypt’s plan for Gaza, which has the backing of all members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), provides a positive and constructive framework for moving forward.
In his speech at the OIC and Arab League Gaza Contact Group meeting in Cairo, Fidan stressed that while the meeting was underway, ongoing atrocities such as genocide, forced displacement, as well as apartheid continue to take place in Gaza.
He pointed to Israeli airstrikes on March 18, which he argued revealed Israel’s broader agenda and expansionist intentions.
Fidan also underscored that Israel’s actions, including obstructing humanitarian aid deliveries and targeting Syrian and Lebanese territories, demonstrate Israel’s determination to pursue its aggressive policies. He stated: “Peace is not possible in the region without stopping Israel."
He further emphasized that the primary objective should be to halt the ongoing destruction in Gaza and secure a permanent ceasefire, calling for increased pressure on Israel.
Fidan concluded by asserting the need to leverage international platforms such as the United Nations to push for an immediate and lasting ceasefire.
