Kremlin Expects Challenging Talks Regarding Black Sea Grain Initiative
(MENAFN) The Kremlin stated on Sunday that the next discussions between Russia and the US in Saudi Arabia concerning the potential revival of the Black Sea Grain Initiative will be "difficult."
Delegations from the United States and Russia are set to engage in another stage of mutual talks in Riyadh on Monday.
During the meeting, Russia indicated that they would “work out the prospects for the possible implementation of the well-known initiative concerning the safety of navigation in the Black Sea,” referring to the grain deal.
The grain deal, inked in July 2022 in Istanbul by Turkey, the UN, Russia, along with Ukraine, targeted at resuming grain exports from Ukrainian ports that had been disrupted due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which started in February 2022.
However, on July 17, 2023, Russia pulled out of the agreement, citing the failure to implement the Russian side of the deal. Moscow demanded the easing of banking restrictions and the ability to ship its fertilizer before rejoining the initiative.
During an interview with a Russian reporter, Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov revealed that Moscow intends to discuss Russian Leader Vladimir Putin’s approval for renewing the initiative and is prepared to address the specific details surrounding the matter.
