U.S. pilot messaging system experiences second breakdown this year
(MENAFN) A key U.S. pilot messaging system managed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) suffered its second outage of the year on Saturday.
The failure of the "Notice to Airmen" (NOTAM) system lasted over three hours which is caused by a hardware problem before it was restored, according to the agency.
The system had also experienced a temporary outage earlier in February.
On Friday, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that the Trump administration would "a state-of-the-art, brand-new air traffic control system."
Duffy confirmed that President Trump would receive "first sneak peek" of the system before it is presented to Congress as part of a funding proposal.
The U.S. airline industry is grappling with reduced passenger volume, a consequence of heightened safety anxieties following a series of recent accidents. Consequently, many carriers have adjusted their first-quarter 2025 earnings forecasts downward.
