Pentagon Launches Polygraph Investigation into Claimed Data Leak
(MENAFN) The Pentagon has initiated a polygraph investigation to identify the source of an alleged data leak, following criticism from US billionaire Elon Musk about officials spreading "false information" regarding his connections to the military, Bloomberg reported on Saturday.
The investigation was prompted after Joe Kasper, chief of staff to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, called for an inquiry into the "unauthorized disclosure" of sensitive national security information. Kasper also recommended that those responsible be referred for criminal prosecution.
"The investigation into leaks will commence immediately and culminate in a report to the Secretary of Defense.
The report will include a complete record of unauthorized disclosures within the Department of Defense and recommendations to improve such efforts," Kasper wrote in an internal memo released late Friday.
Musk, whose companies are involved in multi-billion dollar defense contracts, visited the Pentagon on Friday for discussions on cost-saving measures and innovation.
But controversy surfaced even before Musk's arrival, as a news agency reported that he was expected to receive classified meetings on US military strategies, particularly regarding possible war scenarios with China.
