Venezuela Plans on Resuming Deporting Nationals from U.S.
(MENAFN) Venezuela will once again begin accepting deported citizens from the United States after reaching a renewed agreement with the Trump administration, Leader Nicolas Maduro announced on Saturday.
In a TV interview, Maduro stated, "Tomorrow, thanks to the government’s perseverance, we’ll resume flights to continue rescuing and freeing migrants from prisons in the United States," as reported by a news agency.
This agreement marks the end of a months-long deadlock that followed Venezuela’s decision to halt repatriation flights in March.
The suspension occurred after the US Treasury Department withdrew Chevron’s license to export Venezuelan oil, a stance that was strongly criticized by Caracas.
The original repatriation deal had been negotiated by Richard Grenell, the Trump administration’s special envoy, and was hailed by United States Leader Donald Trump as a key step in reducing illegal immigration.
"Venezuela has agreed to receive, back into their Country, all Venezuela illegal aliens who were encamped in the US, including gang members of Tren de Aragua," Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social at the time. "Venezuela has further agreed to supply the transportation back."
