PM Internship Scheme Partners 327 Companies To Engage 1.18 Lakh Youth In 735 Districts

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Mar 22 (KNN) India is strategically positioning itself to leverage its demographic advantage with the launch of the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme (PMIS) on October 3, 2024.

This comprehensive initiative aims to provide one crore young Indians with 12-month paid internships at leading companies over the next five years, effectively bridging the gap between academic education and industry requirements.

The program has been designed to transform India's workforce by combining theoretical knowledge with practical industry experience, preparing youth to meet the demands of an evolving global economy.

This strategic development of human capital supports India's aspiration to become the "Skill Capital of the World" through systematic workforce enhancement.

Expanding the program's accessibility, Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman officially launched a dedicated PMIS mobile application on March 17, 2025.

This platform, along with the streamlined PMIS Portal, allows candidates to efficiently filter opportunities based on district, state, sector, and location radius preferences.

The application also enables users to simultaneously apply for up to three internship positions, offering greater flexibility in their career development approach.

To enhance awareness and participation, authorities have conducted more than 80 outreach events across educational institutions, including colleges, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), and Rozgar Melas.

Complementing these efforts are national digital campaigns and influencer-led initiatives to broaden the program's reach.

The implementation also includes an assessment framework to recognise high-performing states and union territories.

The application incorporates a Referral Program established by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, allowing registered users to recommend eligible candidates and receive incentives.

This feature is accessible through both the mobile application and the PMIS web portal, creating additional pathways for program engagement.

Following the successful completion of its initial phase, PMIS has significantly expanded in Round II, offering over 1.18 lakh internships across all 735 districts nationwide.

The program has secured partnerships with 327 reputable companies, offering opportunities across diverse sectors including Automobile, Travel & Hospitality, Banking & Finance, Manufacturing, Metals & Mining, and Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), accommodating candidates from varied educational backgrounds.

The scheme has established partnerships with leading organisations across numerous sectors, including Agriculture, Automotive, Aviation & Defence, Banking & Financial Services, Cement & Building Materials, Chemical Industry, Consulting Services, Diversified Conglomerates, Healthcare, Infrastructure & Construction, IT & Software Development, Media & Entertainment, Oil & Energy, Pharmaceuticals, Retail, Telecom, and Textile Manufacturing.

These strategic alliances ensure interns receive valuable industry exposure and practical experience.
The Prime Minister's Internship Scheme represents a transformative investment in India's future human capital development.

By integrating academic learning with industry experience, PMIS creates a generation of confident, skilled, and workplace-ready professionals.

As the program advances into its second phase, it stands to redefine India's workforce potential, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship while promoting inclusive economic growth.

Through this initiative, India positions its youth as active architects of national progress, empowered to lead and excel in creating a future characterised by global leadership and prosperity.
